Sauble is long enough that it feels like several different beaches depending on where you land. The stretch near the main strip is the liveliest, boardwalk shops, chip trucks, and enough foot traffic that you'll want a cottage you can walk from rather than drive. Wander further down the shoreline and it empties out fast. Ten minutes on foot can take you from a packed beach day to one where you've basically got the sand to yourselves, which matters more than people expect once they're actually there with a toddler and a cooler.

Upriver, Sauble Falls turns into a real event every fall when salmon and trout push upstream over the falls. It's worth the short drive even if nobody in your group fishes.

Young families do well here because the water stays shallow for a long way out, which buys some peace of mind before the swimming lessons have fully sunk in. Groups of friends lean toward cottages near the main strip so evenings out don't require a car. Anglers get their own season entirely once September rolls around.

Book early if you're after July or August, especially long weekends, which tend to fill up over the winter. If your dates are flexible, September is the better-kept secret: still warm enough to swim most years, noticeably quieter, and usually a better rate than peak summer.
